Headlamp having a detachable flashlight

A method, comprising:

• providing a headlamp, wherein the headlamp comprises:
• a head guard adapted to be worn on a head of an operator, the head guard comprising a cavity, the cavity comprising a first electrical contact and a first magnet positioned therein;
• a detachable flashlight adapted to be positioned in the cavity of the head guard, the detachable flashlight comprising:
• a second electrical contact and a second magnet;
• and
• a first portion connected to a second portion about a hinge such that the first portion of the detachable flashlight pivots relative to the second portion, wherein, when the detachable flashlight is positioned in the cavity, a downward force imposed on the first portion of the detachable flashlight causes the first portion to pivot relative to the second portion, wherein, when the downward force is imposed, at least a portion of the second portion is retained in the cavity without causing the detachable flashlight to become disengaged from the head guard;
• and
• wherein the detachable flashlight is sized and positioned such that, when positioned in the cavity, the second magnet magnetically couples to the first magnet and the second electrical contact electrically couples to the first electrical contact positioned in the cavity.

A headlamp, comprising:

• a head guard adapted to be worn on a head of an operator, the head guard comprising a first electrical contact, and a first magnet;
• a detachable flashlight adapted to be coupled to the head guard, the detachable flashlight comprising a second electrical contact, a second magnet, and a first source of illumination, wherein:
• the head guard comprises a second source of illumination independent of the first source of illumination;
• and
• the detachable flashlight is sized and positioned such that, when coupled to the head guard, the second magnet of the detachable flashlight magnetically couples to the first magnet of the head guard and the second electrical contact of the detachable flashlight electrically couples to the first electrical contact of the head guard;
• and
• processing circuitry that:
• detects whether the detachable flashlight is coupled to the head guard;
• in response to the detachable flashlight not being coupled to the head guard, turns on the second source of illumination;
• and
• in response to the detachable flashlight being coupled to the head guard, turns off the second source of illumination.

A method, comprising:

• providing a head guard adapted to be worn on a head of an operator, the head guard comprising a first electrical contact, and a first magnet;
• providing a detachable flashlight adapted to be coupled to the head guard, the detachable flashlight comprising a second electrical contact, a second magnet, and a first source of illumination, wherein:
• the head guard comprises a second source of illumination independent of the first source of illumination;
• and
• the detachable flashlight is sized and positioned such that, when coupled to the head guard, the second magnet of the detachable flashlight magnetically couples to the first magnet of the head guard and the second electrical contact of the detachable flashlight electrically couples to the first electrical contact of the head guard;
• and
• detecting, via processing circuitry of the headlamp, whether the detachable flashlight is coupled to the head guard;
• in response to the detachable flashlight not being coupled to the head guard, turning on, by the processing circuitry, the second source of illumination;
• and
• in response to the detachable flashlight being coupled to the head guard, turning off, by the processing circuitry, the second source of illumination.
