System and method for perforating paint-roller cover fabric

An inline paint roller cover material manufacturing system for a paint roller manufacturing system having a mandrel, a strip dispenser positioned to dispense a windable width of strip material having an inner side and an outer side to the mandrel, an adhesive applicator configured to apply adhesive on the outer side of the windable strip upstream of a location where a paint roller cover is wound about the windable strip, and a compressing and advancing device positioned to apply inward pressure normal to the mandrel on the paint roller cover material after it is wound about the strip, and further positioned to advance the adhesive-coated windable strip and the paint roller cover material along the mandrel, the inline paint roller cover material manufacturing system comprising:

• a heated perforator adapted to form a perforated paint roller cover fabric having a plurality of perforations from paint roller cover fabric having a backing layer and a fiber layer;
• a fabric coating applicator positioned between the heated perforator and the mandrel to apply a coating to the backing layer and into the plurality of perforations and into interstitial spaces of the fabric material;
• a compressing roller positioned between the fabric coating applicator and the mandrel, the compressing roller configured to apply a compressive force on the coating, thereby forming a paint roller cover material without perforations.
