## Abstract

A scorpion venom heat-resistant synthetic peptide (SVHRSP) contains an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 1. One or more amino acids the amino acid sequence can be substituted or deleted. A pharmaceutical composition that contains the SVHRSP has numerous applications. The pharmaceutical composition can be used to protect neuronal cell against amyloid beta-induced toxic effects, or to inhibit the sodium channel current of a hippocampal neuronal cell, or to protect a neuronal cell against NMDA-induced injury. It may also promote the formation of a pluripotent neural stem cell from a type II astrocyte, or treats a subject, such as a human, having epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, or Parkinson's disease.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of alleviating symptoms of a neurological disease associated with amyloid beta-induced toxic effect, oxidative stress, or NMDA-induced injury, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition, wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises a scorpion venom heat-resistant synthetic peptide (SVHRSP) consisting of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 1 and the neurological disease is epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, or Parkinson's disease.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the neurological disease is epilepsy.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the neurological disease is Alzheimer's disease.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein the subject is a human.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the neurological disease is Parkinson's disease.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method according to claim 6, wherein the subject is a human.

### Claim 8

A method of protecting a neuronal cell against an adverse effect, the method comprising contacting the neuronal cell with an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition in vitro, wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises a scorpion venom heat-resistant synthetic peptide (SVHRSP) consisting of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 1 and the adverse effect is amyloid beta-induced toxic effect, oxidative stress, or NMDA-induced injury.
