## Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide glass compositions, fiberizable glass compositions, and glass fibers formed from such compositions, as well as glass strands, yarns, fabrics, and composites comprising such glass fibers adapted for use in various applications. In some embodiments of the present invention, the glass compositions additionally include at least one rare earth oxide.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A glass composition suitable for fiber forming comprising:
SiO2
56-68
weight percent;
Al2O3
11-less than 18
weight percent;
CaO
12
weight percent or less;
MgO
7-17
weight percent;
Na2O
0-1
weight percent;
K2O
0-1
weight percent;
Li2O
0-5
weight percent;
TiO2
0-2
weight percent;
Fe2O3
0-1
weight percent;
SnO2
0-4
weight percent;
ZnO
0-4
weight percent;
at least one rare earth oxide in an amount greater than 1 weight percent; and
other constituents 0-11 weight percent total,
wherein the (Na2O+K2O+Li2O) content is greater than 1 weight percent, and
wherein the composition is substantially free of B2O3.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the SiO2 content is at least 60 weight percent.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the Al2O3 content is 14-19 weight percent.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein MgO is 10-17 weight percent.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the CaO content is less than 5 weight percent.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein ZnO is present in an amount of >0 weight percent.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the Li2O content is 0.4-2 weight percent.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the Na2O+K2O content is less than 0.5 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the Na2O+K2O+Li2O content is up to 2.5 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 9, wherein the Na2O+K2O content is less than 0.5 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, further comprising Nb2O5 in an amount of >0-5 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein SnO2 is present in an amount of >0 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein CeO2 is present in an amount of >0-4 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein SnO2+CeO2 is >1-8 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one rare earth oxide is present in an amount of at least 3 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one rare earth oxide is present in an amount up to 8 weight percent.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one rare earth oxide is present in an amount up to 5 weight percent.

The glass composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one rare earth oxide comprises at least one of La2O3, Y2O3, Sc2O3, Nd2O3, CeO2, Sm2O3, and Gd2O3.

A glass fiber comprising:
