## Abstract

A method of treating skin is disclosed. The method can include topically applying to a peron's skin a composition comprising 0.0001% to 5% w/w of a hydrolyzed algae extract comprising exopolysaccharides from Halymenia durvillei, and 0.0001% to 5% w/w of a saccharide isomerate comprising an exopolysaccharide synthesized by Vibrio alginolyticus, wherein at least one of skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNFα production is inhibited in the skin.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treating a human with erythemic skin, the method comprising topically applying to said human a composition comprising:
0. 0001% to 5% w/w of a hydrolyzed algae extract;
0.0001% to 5% w/w of a saccharide isomerate;
at least one of octinoxate, homosalate, oxybenzone, octisalate, avobenzone, octocrylene, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide; and
a dermatologically acceptable vehicle,
wherein at least one of skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNF-a production is inhibited in the skin, wherein the hydrolyzed algae extract comprises exopolysaccharides from Halymenia durvillei, and wherein the saccharide isomerate comprises an exopolysaccharide synthesized by Vibrio alginolyticus.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the hydrolyzed algae extract increases production of filaggrin, increases skin moisture, increases production of occludin, or decreases skin permeability in the skin.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the saccharide isomerate increases production of filaggrin, increases skin moisture, increases production of occludin, or inhibits TNF-α production in the skin.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is formulated as at least one of a moisturizer, a mask, a foundation, a freshener, or a cleanser.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises 35% to 98% w/w of water.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the skin permeability is decreased in the skin.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein filaggrin production is increased in the skin.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein skin moisture is increased in the skin.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein occludin production is increased in the skin.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein TNF-α production is decreased in the skin.
