## Abstract

A capsule endoscopic system is disclosed, where the system comprises a capsule device and a docking device. The capsule device comprises a battery, a secondary coil, and a capsule housing to enclose the battery and the secondary coil in a sealed environment, where the capsule device consists of a first end and a second end in a longitudinal direction of the capsule device, and the battery is located in proximity to the first end and the secondary coil is located in proximity to the second end. The docking device comprises an opening on the docking device, a primary coil to generate an alternating magnetic field, and a primary core. The capsule endoscopic system is arranged so that the primary coil is wrapped around at least a portion of the primary core.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A capsule endoscopic system which retrieves data from a capsule device that comprises:
an electronic circuit for retrieving the data;
a battery;
a secondary coil which, when coupled to an alternating magnetic field, provides an alternating current;
a rectifier circuit that derives power from the alternating current to operate the electronic circuit during retrieval of the data; and
a capsule housing adapted to be swallowable and to enclose the battery and the secondary coil in a sealed environment, the capsule housing having, along a longitudinal axis, a first end enclosing the battery and a second end enclosing the secondary coil;
wherein the capsule endoscopic system comprises a docking device, which comprises:
a primary coil that generates the alternating magnetic field;
a receptacle for securing the second end of the capsule device in a docked position to allow the secondary coil to couple the alternating magnetic field; and
a primary core which is configured to concentrate the alternating magnetic field and which is configured with a gap into which the receptacle is placed, the primary core having one or more pole pieces, such that, in the docked position, one or more of the pole pieces direct the alternating magnetic field in the primary core towards the secondary coil and away from the battery, wherein the primary coil is wrapped around a portion of the primary core.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, wherein the primary core contains ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 2, wherein the primary core is configured as a shell with an opening for inserting the capsule device.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, further comprising a switch coupled between the battery and the electronic circuit, wherein the switch is operable by a magnet external to the capsule device to disconnect the battery from the electronic circuit.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 4, further comprising a hinged lid or a removable cover, wherein the magnet is attached to the hinged lid or the removable cover and the magnet is configured to cause the battery to disconnect from the electronic circuit when the capsule device is docked in the docking device with the hinged lid or the removable cover closed.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 5, further comprising a spring connecting the magnet to the hinged lid or the removable cover, wherein the capsule pushes against the magnet and compresses the spring.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 5, wherein the hinged lid or the removable cover comprises a push means to apply a push force on the capsule device when the hinged lid or the removable cover is opened to prevent the magnet from picking up the capsule device.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 7, wherein the push means corresponds to a spring-loaded plunger or an elastic membrane.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, wherein the primary core further includes a post having an axis that passes through the secondary coil.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 9, wherein the primary coil is wrapped around the post.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the secondary coil is enclosed by the primary coil.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, wherein the capsule device is powered from the alternating magnetic field coupled to the secondary coil when the capsule device is in the docked position in the docking device.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscopic system of claim 1, wherein the primary core has low electrical conductivity.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscope system of claim 1 wherein, in the docked position, the primary and secondary coils are in a lateral-field geometry configuration.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The capsule endoscope system of claim 1 wherein, in the docked position, the primary and secondary coils are in a longitudinal-field geometry configuration.
