## Abstract

A method of limiting circumferential rotation of a split-ring seal for use in a gas turbine engine includes inserting a retention block through a slot in a flange of a support structure and into a groove configured to hold a split-ring seal, and engaging an end of a split-ring seal in the groove with a surface of the retention block.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An anti-rotation assembly for limiting circumferential movement of a split-ring seal disposed annularly about an axis, the assembly comprising:
a retention block comprising:
a side disposed in a plane perpendicular to the axis;
a face disposed in a plane perpendicular to the side and abutting the side;
a stem extending axially outward from the side; and
a boss, wherein the boss extends radially inward from the face;
a split-ring seal; and
a support structure receiving the split-ring seal and retaining the retention block, the support structure comprising:
a flange;
a slot extending through the flange for receiving the stem of the retention block; and
a hole for receiving the boss of the retention block, whereby the boss engages the support structure;
wherein the split-ring seal is disposed adjacent to the flange, and wherein the stem of the retention block extends through the slot and engages the split-ring seal.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the split-ring seal comprises first and second ends that overlap and create an end gap, and wherein the stem of the retention block engages the split-ring seal in the end gap.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The assembly of claim 2, wherein the support structure further comprises:
a groove adjacent to the flange, and wherein the split-ring seal is disposed at least partially in the groove.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The assembly of claim 3, wherein the first and second ends of the split-ring seal each have a thickness that is less than a thickness along the length of the seal, and wherein the stem of the retention block extends into the groove a distance that is less than the thickness of the first end.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the boss extends through a full thickness of the support structure such that an end of the boss protrudes from the support structure, and wherein the end of the boss is swaged to engage the support structure.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the stem of the retention block is press fit into the slot of the support structure.

### Claim 7

A method of limiting circumferential rotation of a split-ring seal for use in a gas turbine engine and disposed annularly about an axis, the method comprising:
receiving and retaining a retention block in a support structure, wherein the support structure comprises:
a flange disposed circumferentially about the axis;
a slot extending axially through the flange; and
a groove extending circumferentially and disposed adjacent the flange;
wherein a stem of the retention block is received in the slot;
engaging an end of a split-ring seal in the groove with the stem of the retention block;
providing axial retention of the retention block by disposing boss of the retention block through a portion of the support structure disposed adjacent to the flange; and
providing radial retention of the retention block by swaging an end of the boss to engage the support structure.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, and further comprising press fitting the stem of the retention block in the slot of the support structure.

### Claim 9

A T-shaped retention block for limiting circumferential movement of a split-ring seal disposed annularly about an axis, the T-shaped retention block comprising:
a body portion comprising:
a first side;
a second side disposed opposite the first side;
a face abutting and extending between the first and second sides in a plane perpendicular to the first and second sides; and
a boss extending from the face in a direction perpendicular to the face; and
a stem extending outward from the first side in a direction perpendicular to the first side to an end surface, wherein the end surface extends parallel to the first side and perpendicular to the face and abuts the face;
wherein the body portion has a first width measured across the face where the face abuts the first side and the stem has a second width measured across the face where the face abuts the end surface, and wherein the second width is less than the first width.
