Abstract
A method for setting-up a tunnel connection for transporting data packets over a high latency network connection in a communication network comprises the step of, at a module or node configured on a tunnel connection initiator side of the high latency network connection, using a non-TCP connection to encapsulate a set-up connection message for sending to a module or node configured on a core network (CN) side of the backhaul network to offset-up a data packet transport tunnel connection between the initiator side of the high latency network connection and core network (CN) side of the high latency network connection.
Claims15
A method for setting-up a segmented tunnel connection for transporting data packets over a high latency network connection in a communication network, the method comprising the steps of:
- establishing a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) first tunnel segment between a tunnel connection initiator device and an initiator side gateway module or node configured on a tunnel connection initiator side of the high latency network connection using a first mapped pair of tunnel endpoint identifiers (TEIDs), said first mapped pair of TEIDs comprising an uplink (UL) TEID and a downlink (DL) TEID for setting up said TCP first tunnel segment;
- at said initiator side gateway module or node, using non-TCP connection over said high latency network connection to encapsulate a non-TCP set-up connection message and sending said non-TCP set-up connection message to a core network (CN) side gateway module or node configured on CN side of the high latency network connection and, based on said non-TCP set-up connection message, establishing a non-TCP second tunnel segment between said initiator side gateway module or node and said CN side gateway module or node using a second mapped pair of TEIDs, said second mapped pair of TEIDs comprising a UL TEID and a DL TEID for setting up said non-TCP second tunnel segment;
- and
- establishing a TCP third tunnel segment between the CN side gateway module or node and the CN using a third mapped pair of tunnel endpoint identifiers (TEIDs), said third mapped pair of TEIDs comprising an uplink (UL) TEID and a downlink (DL) TEID for setting up said TCP third tunnel segment,
- wherein the initiator side gateway module or node and the CN side gateway module or node each includes a control plane (CP), a data plane (DP) and a TCP proxy (TP) module.
