Abstract
A first base station receives an uplink signal from a wireless device. The first base station receives a packet for the wireless device: after a duration from receiving the uplink signal; and when the wireless device is in a radio resource control inactive state. A determination is made that the duration is larger than a value. Based on the determining, the first base station sends a radio access network (RAN) paging to a second base station of a RAN notification area of the wireless device. The first base station sends the packet.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a first base station from a second base station, an uplink signal of a wireless device, wherein a radio access network (RAN) notification area of the wireless device comprises the first base station, the second base station, and one or more other base stations;
- receiving, by the first base station, a packet for transmission to the wireless device:
- after a duration from receiving the uplink signal;
- and
- while the wireless device is in a radio resource control inactive state:
- determining that the duration is shorter than a value;
- and
- based on the determining;
- sending, by the first base station to the second base station, a radio access network (RAN) paging and the packet;
- and
- not sending, by the first base station to the one or more other base stations in the RAN notification area, the RAN paging and the packet.
