Management of network connections and priorities based on device profiles

A memory device having program instructions stored thereon that, upon access by a logic circuit of an Information Handling System (IHS), enable the IHS to:

• receive instrumentation data from a first device among a plurality of devices coupled to the IHS via a network, wherein the instrumentation data includes at least one of:
• a device name, an available connection, a device type, an access point capability, a MAC address, a cost optimization selection, a location, a job priority, a bandwidth needed, a broadcast frequency, a duration of broadcast, mobility, a minimum acceptable latency, or a connection reliability per channel;
• receive observation data about the first device from a second device, wherein the observation data includes at least one of:
• a radio name, a signal strength, a signal-to-noise ratio, a data rate, a bandwidth, an available frequency band, or an interference across bands;
• determine that a portion of the instrumentation data does not match a corresponding portion of the observation data;
• at least one of:
• (a) disregard the portion of the observation data in response to the second device being a mobile device, or (b) disregard the portion of the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a mobile device;
• assign a first weight to the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a mobile device, or assign a second weight larger than the first weight to the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a fixed device;
• assign a third weight to the observation data in response to the second device being a mobile device, or assign a fourth weight larger than the third weight to the observation data in response to the second device being a fixed device;
• correlate the weighted observation data with the weighted instrumentation data;
• assign a connection priority to each connection of each of the first device based upon the correlation;
• and
• configure communications between the IHS and the first device based, at least in part, upon the connection priorities, wherein configuring the communications includes configuring at least one of:
• a frequency channel, a transmit power, or a frame size.

In an Information Handling System (IHS), a method comprising:

• receiving instrumentation data from a first device among a plurality of devices coupled to the IHS via a network, wherein the instrumentation data includes at least one of:
• a device name, an available connection, a device type, an access point capability, a MAC address, a cost optimization selection, a location, a job priority, a bandwidth needed, a broadcast frequency, a duration of broadcast, mobility, a minimum acceptable latency, or a connection reliability per channel;
• receiving observation data about the first device from a second device, wherein the observation data includes at least one of:
• a radio name, a signal strength, a signal-to-noise ratio, a data rate, a bandwidth, an available frequency band, or an interference across bands;
• determining that a portion of the instrumentation data does not match a corresponding portion of the observation data;
• at least one of:
• (a) disregarding the portion of the observation data in response to the second device being a mobile device, or (b) disregarding the portion of the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a mobile device;
• assigning a first weight to the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a mobile device, or assigning a second weight larger than the first weight to the instrumentation data in response to the first device being a fixed device;
• assigning a third weight to the observation data in response to the second device being a mobile device, or assigning a fourth weight larger than the third weight to the observation data in response to the second device being a fixed device;
• correlating weighted the observation data with the weighted instrumentation data;
• assigning a connection priority to each connection of each of the first device based upon the correlation;
• and
• configuring communications between the IHS and the first device based, at least in part, upon the connection priorities, wherein configuring the communications includes configuring at least one of:
• a frequency channel, a transmit power, or a frame size.
