Abstract
In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a transmitter for communicating with a client, a receiver, and a controller coupled with the transmitter and receiver, wherein the controller is operable to receive a proxy from the client for traffic from a source and transmit a join to the source on behalf of the client.
Claims12
An apparatus comprising:
- a transmitter for communicating with a client;
- a receiver;
- and
- a controller coupled with the transmitter and receiver,
- wherein the controller is operable to receive multicast traffic, wherein the multicast traffic is Directed Multicast Service (DMS) traffic, and wherein the controller is further operable to receive a proxy from the client for traffic from a source and transmit a join to the source on behalf of the client without notifying the client, wherein the proxy is indicated by a DMS Traffic Specification/Transaction Class for Data Retention (TSPEC/TCLAS) message, wherein the controller is further operable to transmit the join when the client is asleep during a query interval for a query, wherein the join is an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) join and the query is an IGMP query.
2 more elements
An apparatus comprising:
- a memory;
- one or more processors;
- and
- logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to cause the one or more processors to:
- enter a sleep mode,
- awaken from the sleep mode at a query interval, and
- send a join for multicast traffic to an access point operable to receive multicast traffic, wherein the access point is further operable to transmit the join to a source of the multicast traffic, wherein the multicast traffic is Directed Multicast Service (DMS) traffic, regardless of whether a query is present during the query interval, wherein the join is an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) join or report, and the query is an IGMP query.
4 more elements
A method comprising:
- receiving a proxy from a client for multicast traffic from a source of the multicast traffic, wherein the multicast traffic is Directed Multicast Service (DMS) traffic, and wherein the proxy is indicated by a DMS Traffic Specification/Transaction Class for Data Retention (TSPEC/TCLAS) message;
- transmitting a join to the source of the multicast traffic on behalf of the client without notifying the client and when the client is asleep during a query interval for a query, wherein the join is an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) join and the query is an IGMP query;
- and
- receiving the multicast traffic from the source.
