Abstract
The techniques discussed herein include an offload controller, a virtual routing controller, and/or virtual routing objects. In some instances the virtual routing controller may be configured and/or positioned to peer client premises equipment (CPE). This may include establishing an external gateway protocol session with CPE and generating a virtual routing object based at least in part on the session. In some examples, this virtual routing object may be used to configure routes between a switch and a virtual private cloud (VPC) and/or virtual machine (VM).
Claims19
A system comprising a switch and a first virtual routing controller (VRC), the first VRC comprising:
- one or more first processors;
- a first memory having stored thereon first instructions that, when executed, cause the first VRC to:
- establish, with customer premises equipment (CPE), an exterior gateway protocol session;
- receive, from the CPE via the exterior gateway protocol session, a user routing configuration;
- generate, based at least in part on the user routing configuration, a virtual routing object (VRO);
- determine that a route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in at least a first layer of a network, the VRO including an indication of the conflict or an absence of conflict;
- transmit, to the switch and based at least in part on the VRO, a rule, wherein the rule causes the switch to manage network traffic to and from the CPE based at least in part on instructions associated with the VRO;
- wherein the system, further comprising a second VRC associated with a second layer of the network and wherein the second VRC comprises:
- one or more second processors;
- a second memory having stored thereon second instructions that, when executed, cause the second VRC to:
- determine that the route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in the second layer;
- determine, based at least in part on the VRO, that the second layer is associated with an extent of a scope of connectivity defined by the user routing configuration;
- and
- transmitting, based at least in part on determining that the second layer is associated with the extent of the scope of connectivity defined by the user routing configuration, an acceptance of the VRO to at least one of the first VRC or the switch.
A method comprising:
- publishing, from a first virtual routing controller (VRC) to customer premises equipment (CPE) and a virtual private cloud (VPC) controller, exterior gateway protocol routes;
- receiving, at the first VRC and from the CPE, a network configuration;
- transmitting, from the first VRC to the VPC controller, at least part of the network configuration;
- receiving, at the first VRC from the VPC controller, a rule specifying a route between the CPE and a VPC;
- generating, at the first VRC, a virtual routing object (VRO) based at least in part on at least one of the network configuration or the rule;
- determine, at the first VRC, that a route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in at least a first layer of a network, the VRO including an indication of the conflict or an absence of conflict;
- transmitting, from the first VRC to a switch, at least one of the VRO or the rule, wherein the VRO or the rule causes the switch to manage network traffic to and from the CPE;
- associating a second VRC with the second layer of the network;
- determine, at the second VRC, that the route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in the second layer;
- determine, by the second VRC based at least in part on the VRO, that the second layer is associated with an extent of a scope of connectivity defined by the network configuration;
- and
- transmitting, by the second VRC, based at least in part on determining that the second layer is associated with the extent of the scope of connectivity defined by the network configuration, an acceptance of the VRO to at least one of the first VRC or the switch.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium having a set of instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:
- establish an external routing protocol session with customer premises equipment (CPE);
- announce one or more routes associated with the external routing protocol session to at least one of the CPE or a virtual private cloud (VPC) controller;
- receive, from the CPE, a network configuration;
- transmit, to the VPC controller, at least part of the network configuration;
- receive, from the VPC controller, a rule specifying a route between the CPE and a VPC;
- generate a virtual routing object (VRO) based at least in part on at least one of the one or more routes, the network configuration, or the rule;
- determine, at the first virtual routing controller (VRC), that a route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in at least a first layer of a network, the VRO including an indication of the conflict or an absence of conflict;
- transmit, to a switch, at least one of the VRO or the rule, wherein the VRO or the rule causes the switch to manage network traffic to and from the CPE;
- associating a second VRC with the second layer of the network;
- determine, at the second VRC, that the route associated with the VRO does not create a conflict in the second layer;
- determine, by the second VRC based at least in part on the VRO, that the second layer is associated with an extent of a scope of connectivity defined by the network configuration;
- and
- transmitting, by the second VRC, based at least in part on determining that the second layer is associated with the extent of the scope of connectivity defined by the network configuration, an acceptance of the VRO to at least one of the first VRC or the switch.
