Network aware dynamic orchestration method and system for multicast services

A method comprising:

• interrogating at least one network node of a plurality of network nodes to identify a plurality of virtualized multicast-traffic receivers that receive a multicast packet traffic from the at least one network node;
• identifying two or more virtualized multicast-traffic receivers of the plurality of virtualized multicast-traffic receivers associated with a given multicast packet to migrate under a common node based on a pre-defined policy to consolidate scattered multicast-traffic receivers under a given common node, wherein the two or more virtualized multicast-traffic receivers include a first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver and a second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver, and wherein the first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver receives the given multicast packet from a first node and the second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver receives the given multicast packet from a second node;
• and
• causing i) orchestration of the first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver at the second node or ii) orchestration of the second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver at the first node according to the pre-defined policy, wherein the pre-defined policy is selected from the group consisting of:
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that is a source of multicast traffic;
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers with a least number of migrations;
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that has a direct connection with a border node when the multicast traffic source is located outside a local network associated with the at least one network node;
• and
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that allows for a certain user-defined load at that network node or at nearby nodes.

A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor causes the processor to:

• interrogate at least one network node of a plurality of network nodes to identify a plurality of virtualized multicast-traffic that receive a multicast packet traffic from the at least one network node;
• identify two or more virtualized multicast-traffic receivers of the plurality of virtualized multicast-traffic receivers associated with a given multicast packet to migrate under a common node based on a pre-defined policy to consolidate scattered multicast-traffic receivers under a given common node, wherein the two or more virtualized multicast-traffic receivers include a first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver and a second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver, and wherein the first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver receives the given multicast packet from a first node and the second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver receives the given multicast packet from a second node;
• and
• cause i) orchestration of the first virtualized multicast-traffic receiver at the second node or ii) orchestration of the second virtualized multicast-traffic receiver at the first node according to the pre-defined policy, wherein the pre-defined policy is selected from the group consisting of:
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that is a source of multicast traffic;
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers with a least number of migrations;
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that has a direct connection with a border node when the multicast traffic source is located outside a local network associated with the at least one network node;
• and
• a policy configured to consolidate multicast-traffic receivers under a node that allows for a certain user-defined load at that network node or at nearby nodes.
