Abstract
A stator for an electromagnetic machine having a plurality of electromagnets. Some or all of the electromagnets include a stack of laminations defining a tooth and a yoke segment, and an insulating bobbin surrounding a portion of the tooth of each lamination such that each lamination is held against adjacent laminations by the bobbin. The electromagnets also include electrically conductive windings surrounding a portion of the bobbin and a stator encapsulant fully encapsulating the bobbin and windings of the electromagnets.
Claims16
A stator for an electromagnetic machine comprising:
- a plurality of electromagnets comprising:
- a stack of laminations defining a tooth and a yoke segment wherein the stack of laminations of each of the plurality of electromagnets comprises:
- a plurality of individual laminations, with each lamination comprising opposing first and second planar faces and a surrounding edge, such that the first planar face of a first lamination faces the second planar face of a second, adjacent, lamination;
- and
- a thermal transmission layer positioned between the first planar face of the first lamination and the second planar face of the second lamination such that the thermal transmission layer is in thermal and physical contact with the first planar face of the first lamination and in thermal contact with the second planar face of the second lamination;
- an insulating bobbin surrounding a portion of the tooth of each lamination, wherein each lamination is held against adjacent laminations by the bobbin;
- electrically conductive windings surrounding a portion of the bobbin;
- and
- a stator encapsulant fully encapsulating the bobbin and windings of the plurality of electromagnets.
