Abstract
Disclosed is a framework for generating for display an interactive visualization of event data based on a static visualization library. In an embodiment, event data is received based on a user search query. A computer system implementing a visualization framework accesses a visualization library that includes instructions for rendering a static visualization based on input data. The computer system then processes the received event data with the visualization library to generate an interactive visualization of the received event data and causes display of the interactive visualization, the interactive visualization being dynamically modifiable in response to a user input.
Claims27
A method comprising:
- accessing, by a computer system, a visualization framework that incorporates an interactive visualization module, the visualization framework being designed to accommodate and control operation of a plurality of interactive visualization modules, each designed to generate a different type of interactive visualization, the interactive visualization module including a static visualization library, the static visualization library including instructions for rendering a static visualization based on input data, the interactive visualization module further including instructions for formatting received event data for use with the static visualization library, instructions for rendering formatted event data with the static visualization library, and a formatter schema that defines an option to modify a static visualization;
- receiving, by the computer system, first event data based on a user search query;
- causing, by the computer system, generation of a display that includes a first visualization, based on the first event data;
- detecting, by the computer system, a user interaction with a portion of the first visualization;
- and
- in response to detecting the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization, dynamically updating the display by:
- initiating, by the visualization framework, a second search query based on the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization;
- receiving, by the computer system, in response to the second search query, second event data pertaining to the portion of the first visualization;
- causing, by the computer system, the interactive visualization module to format the second event data into a data object that has a format usable by the static visualization library, by the visualization framework calling a format function and/or a render function in the interactive visualization module;
- and
- causing, by the static visualization library, generation of a display of a second visualization, as a modification of the first visualization, based on the data object and as a response to the user interaction with the first visualization.
A computer system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a storage device having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by the processor cause the computer system to:
- access a visualization framework that incorporates an interactive visualization module, the visualization framework being designed to accommodate and control operation of a plurality of interactive visualization modules, each designed to generate a different type of interactive visualization, the interactive visualization module including a static visualization library, the static visualization library including instructions for rendering a static visualization based on input data, the interactive visualization module further including instructions for formatting received event data for use with the static visualization library, instructions for rendering formatted event data with the static visualization library, and a formatter schema that defines an option to modify a static visualization;
- receive first event data based on a user search query;
- cause generation of a display that includes a first visualization, based on the first event data;
- detect a user interaction with a portion of the first visualization;
- and
- in response to detecting the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization, dynamically update the display by:
- initiating, by the visualization framework, a second search query based on the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization;
- receiving, in response to the second search query, second event data pertaining to the portion of the first visualization;
- causing the interactive visualization module to format the second event data into a data object that has a format usable by the static visualization library, by the visualization framework calling a format function and/or a render function in the interactive visualization module;
- and
- causing, by the static visualization library, generation of a display of a second visualization, as a modification of the first visualization, based on the data object and as a response to the user interaction with the first visualization.
A non-transitory computer readable medium containing instructions, execution of which in a computer system causes the computer system to:
- access a visualization framework that incorporates an interactive visualization module, the visualization framework being designed to accommodate and control operation of a plurality of interactive visualization modules, each designed to generate a different type of interactive visualization, the interactive visualization module including a static visualization library, the static visualization library including instructions for rendering a static visualization based on input data, the interactive visualization module further including instructions for formatting received event data for use with the static visualization library, instructions for rendering formatted event data with the static visualization library, and a formatter schema that defines an option to modify a static visualization;
- receive first event data based on a user search query;
- cause generation of a display that includes a first visualization, based on the first event data;
- detect a user interaction with a portion of the first visualization;
- and
- in response to detecting the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization, dynamically update the display by:
- initiating, by the visualization framework, a second search query based on the user interaction with the portion of the first visualization;
- receiving, in response to the second search query, second event data pertaining to the portion of the first visualization;
- causing the interactive visualization module to format the second event data into a data object that has a format usable by the static visualization library, by the visualization framework calling a format function and/or a render function in the interactive visualization module;
- and
- causing, by the static visualization library, generation of a display of a second visualization, as a modification of the first visualization, based on the data object and as a response to the user interaction with the first visualization.
