Storage aggregate restoration

A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions for performing a method, which when executed by a machine, causes the machine to:

• assign ownership of a first storage device from a first node to a second node based upon a failure of the first node;
• create a gate for the first storage device to block automated synchronization between the first storage device and a second storage device associated with the second node, wherein the gate blocks the automated synchronization from overwriting data within the first storage device using data from the second storage device during failure of the first node and ownership of the first storage device by the second node;
• and
• provide access to the first storage device and the second storage device through the second node while the gate is in place blocking the automated synchronization from overwriting the data of the first storage device with the data of the second storage device.

A computing device comprising:

• a memory comprising machine executable code;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to:
• assign ownership of a first storage device from a first node to a second node based upon a failure of the first node;
• create a gate for the first storage device to block automated synchronization between the first storage device and a second storage device associated with the second node, wherein the gate blocks the automated synchronization from overwriting data within the first storage device using data from the second storage device during failure of the first node and ownership of the first storage device by the second node;
• and
• provide access to the first storage device and the second storage device through the second node while the gate is in place blocking the automated synchronization from overwriting the data of the first storage device with the data of the second storage device.
