Code function checkpoint and restore

A method, comprising:

• receiving an instruction to execute an instance of a code function on a computing hub included in a local environment having a set of connected devices which connect to the computing hub to access services provided by the computing hub, wherein the code function is to be instantiated in a container hosted by the computing hub in the local environment;
• generating, by the computing hub, a code function checkpoint describing execution of the instance of the code function on the computing hub in response to monitoring the computing hub during the execution of the instance of the code function, wherein the code function checkpoint includes at least execution instructions and execution state for the instance of the code function;
• storing the code function checkpoint using a checkpoint service to enable retrieval and distribution of the code function checkpoint;
• and
• running the instance of the code function based at least in part on the execution instructions and the execution state included in the code function checkpoint retrieved by the checkpoint service.

A non-transitory machine readable medium including instructions embodied thereon, the instructions when executed cause one or more processors to perform processing, comprising:

• monitoring a set of metrics associated with a computing hub included in a local environment having a set of connected devices which connect to the computing hub to access the computing hub;
• determining whether to create a code function checkpoint of an instance of a code function running on the computing hub in response to analyzing the set of metrics, wherein the code function is instantiated in a container hosted by the computing hub in the local environment;
• sending a first instruction to the computing hub to create a code function checkpoint having at least execution instructions and execution state for the instance of the code function running on the computing hub, wherein the first instruction causes the computing hub to store the code function checkpoint using a checkpoint service providing retrieval and distribution of code functions and associated code function checkpoints;
• determining whether to resume execution of the instance of the code function on the computing hub in response to analyzing the set of metrics;
• and
• sending a second instruction to the computing hub, the second instruction specifying to run the instance of the code function based at least in part on the code function checkpoint, wherein the second instruction causes the computing hub to retrieve the code function checkpoint using the checkpoint service.
