At least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that, in response to being executed by at least one processor included in a computing device, cause the computing device to manage storage space in a non-volatile storage to improve operation of a camera application, by carrying out steps that include:
- receiving, from the camera application, a request to increase available storage space in a storage device with which the computing device is communicably coupled;
- and
- in response to the request:
- identifying, among a plurality of applications that are distinct from the camera application, at least one application to which an auxiliary request to delete cached data associated with the at least one application should be transmitted, wherein:
- each application of the plurality of applications is associated with a respective priority value that represents a respective historical rate of responsiveness by the application to at least one previous request to delete cached data, and
- the plurality of applications is ordered based on the respective priority values;
- and
- issuing the auxiliary request to the at least one application, wherein the auxiliary request specifies an amount of the cached data to be deleted that is based on a threshold value associated with the request.
