Abstract
An improved material pusher or containment plow employing a floating vehicle-coupling system, a modular composite scraping edge, a front-pivoting wear shoe with an adjustable angle, as well as water-shedding features. The disclosed containment plow and features are provide improved the surface outcome under various snow and ice conditions.
Claims17
A containment plow, comprising:
- an upstanding transverse blade with a front blade surface and a rear blade surface, said rear blade surface of said blade being reinforced by at least one longitudinal channel extending substantially the length of and in parallel with said blade;
- vertical side plates attached to and extending at least forward from a vertical edge at each end of said transverse blade;
- a floating coupler affixed to the rear of said blade, said floating coupler providing an interface by which the containment plow may be attached to a vehicle, where said floating coupler permits relative movement between the vehicle and the containment plow;
- a plurality of removable scraping edge sections, positioned adjacent one another along a bottom edge of said blade, at least one of said scraping edge sections presenting a plurality of faces for contact with a surface to be cleared with the containment plow;
- and
- an adjustable wear shoe freely pivotally attached to each vertical side plate by a pivot pin adjacent a front edge of each of the vertical side plates, where the front edge of each of the vertical side plates is a forwardmost edge ahead of the front blade surface, where the angular orientation of each wear shoe relative to the vertical side plate is adjustable to one of a plurality of fixed positions to control an amount of contact between the scraping edge sections and the surface to be cleared with the containment plow.
An adjustable wear shoe for a containment plow, the containment plow having a transverse blade with a front surface and a rear surface and a vertical side plate, the vertical side plate attached at an end of the transverse blade and extending forward to a front edge forward of the front surface of the transverse blade, the adjustable wear shoe comprising:
- a pivot point adjacent the front edge of the vertical side plate on the containment plow, the adjustable wear shoe freely pivotally attached to the vertical side plate by a pin;
- and
- an angular control mechanism, operatively connected between the vertical side plate and the wear shoe, where the angular orientation of the wear shoe relative to the vertical side plate is adjustable to one of a plurality of fixed positions relative to the vertical side plate.
A containment plow for clearing material from a surface to be cleared, comprising:
- an upstanding transverse blade with a front blade surface and a rear blade surface, said rear blade surface of said blade being reinforced by at least one longitudinal channel extending substantially the length of and in parallel with said blade;
- a vertical side plate attached to and extending at least forward from each vertical edge at the ends of said transverse blade;
- a floating coupler affixed to the rear of said blade, said floating coupler providing an interface by which the containment plow may be attached to a vehicle, where said floating coupler includes
- a plurality of ribs extending rearward from said transverse blade, each of said ribs having at least two apertures therein,
- a pair of longitudinal members slidably located within the apertures of said ribs and attached at each end thereof to a spacer, said spacers separating the longitudinal members yet allowing for the longitudinal members to slide in at least two directions relative to the transverse blade, and
- at least one attachment component attached to the longitudinal members and providing an interface for releasable attachment to the vehicle or a component thereof;
- a plurality of removable scraping edge sections, positioned adjacent one another along a bottom edge of said blade, at least one of said scraping edge sections presenting a plurality of faces for contact with the surface to be cleared, where the scraping edge section is flexible in at least one direction, where at least one face of the scraping edge section forms an acute angle with an adjacent face, where the flexible scraping edge section is reversible, and further including a recessed region along a longitudinal face thereof for receipt of a backing plate, where the backing plate spans multiple adjacent edges;
- where flexible scraping edge section includes a wear resistant material;
- and
- adjustable wear shoes freely pivotally attached adjacent a front edge of each of the vertical side plates, where the angular orientation of each wear shoe relative to a respective vertical side plate is adjustable to one of a plurality of fixed positions to control the amount of contact between the scraping edge sections and the surface to be cleared.
