Base station wireless channel sounding

A method comprising:

• detecting, by a processing system of a channel sounding receiver, a beam-swept reference signal within a time and frequency resource grid of a base station;
• measuring, by the processing system, a channel property at a first physical location based upon the beam-swept reference signal that is received at the first physical location;
• receiving, from the base station by the processing system at a second physical location, the beam-swept reference signal;
• measuring, by the processing system, a channel property at the second physical location based upon the beam-swept reference signal that is received at the second physical location;
• and
• selecting, by the processing system, between the first physical location and the second physical location for a deployment of a customer premises equipment based upon the channel property at the first physical location and the channel property at the second physical location.

A device comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• detecting a synchronization signal within a time and frequency resource grid of a base station;
• measuring a plurality of channel properties at a first physical location based upon the synchronization signal that is received at the first physical location, wherein the plurality of channel properties comprises at least two of:
• a path loss, a material loss, or an angular spread;
• receiving, from the base station at a second physical location, the synchronization signal;
• measuring the plurality of channel properties at the second physical location based upon the synchronization signal that is received at the second physical location;
• and
• selecting between the first physical location and the second physical location for a deployment of a customer premises equipment based upon the plurality of channel properties at the first physical location and the plurality of channel properties at the second physical location.
