Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed, and one includes receiving a configuration specification data, including a cell floorplan data identifying a plurality of rectangular cells, and indicating a cell width and a cell length of each, in combination with determining, based at least in part on the configuration specification data, a spot beam pattern that provides a plurality of rectangular cell coverage regions, having the cell length and width.
Claims17
A system, comprising:
- a beamformer configured to receive transmit signals and correspondingly feed, to an antenna, beamformed transmit antenna feed signals that are configured to cause the antenna to transmit a plurality of spotbeams in accordance with a pattern, wherein the pattern includes:
- a plurality of first spotbeam centers, the first spotbeam centers including:
- two mutually adjacent first spotbeam centers arranged along a row axis, spaced from one another by a center-to-center distance, wherein one-half the center-to-center distance is a first distance,
- an upper first spotbeam center spaced in a direction from the row axis by a second distance, the direction being perpendicular to the row axis, and
- a lower first spotbeam center spaced opposite said direction from the row axis, by a distance equal to the second distance, and
- the second spotbeam center is on the row axis, equidistant between the two mutually adjacent first spotbeam centers,
- wherein:
- the spotbeams have a radius R, and include first spotbeams respectively aligned with the first spotbeam centers, and a second spotbeam aligned with the second spotbeam center,
- the first distance is less than R, and
- the second distance is greater than 2*R.

A method, comprising:
- receiving transmit signals;
- and
- transmitting, based at least in part on the transmit signals, a plurality of spotbeams, the spotbeams having a spotbeam radius R, the spotbeams including:
- two mutually adjacent first spotbeams arranged along a row axis, spaced from one another by a center-to-center distance, wherein one-half the center-to-center distance is a first distance, and the first distance is less than approximately R,
- an upper first spotbeam, a center of the upper first spotbeam being spaced in a direction from the row axis by a second distance, the second distance being greater than approximately 2*R, and the direction being perpendicular to the row axis,
- a lower first spotbeam, a center of the lower first spotbeam being spaced opposite said direction from the row axis, by a distance equal to the second distance, and
- a second spotbeam, a center of the second spotbeam being on the row axis, equidistant between the respective centers of the two mutually adjacent first spotbeams.
