Abstract
Simulating latency in a network environment. A device sends a latency request. The device receives a latency support confirmation. The device builds an I/O frame. The I/O frame comprises a latency simulating bit and a latency duration. Based on the latency simulating bit and the latency duration, the device holds the I/O frame. The device sends the I/O frame.
Claims9
A method for simulating latency, the method comprising:
- sending, from a first device to a second device, an initial I/O request comprising a request to confirm whether the second device supports latency simulation, and wherein the first device and the second device are a server, a controller, or a switch;
- based on the second device supporting latency simulation, the second device sending to the first device, a latency support confirmation;
- in response to receiving the latency support confirmation, the first device building, an I/O frame, comprising an I/O command, comprising a read data, or a write data, and a latency period, that is based on a calculated latency duration;
- and
- the first device sending the I/O frame to the second device upon the expiration of the latency duration.

A computer system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a memory coupled to at least one of the processors;
- a set of computer program instructions stored in the memory and executed by at least one of the processors in order to perform actions of:
- sending, from a first device to a second device, an initial I/O request comprising a request to confirm whether the second device supports latency simulation, and wherein the first device and the second device are a server, a controller, or a switch;
- based on the second device supporting latency simulation, the second device sending to the first device, a latency support confirmation;
- in response to receiving the latency support confirmation, the first device building, an I/O frame, comprising an I/O command comprising a read data or a write data, and a latency period, that is based on a calculated latency duration;
- and
- the first device sending the I/O frame to the second device upon the expiration of the latency duration.

A computer program product, the computer program product comprising:
- a non-transitory storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit for performing a method comprising:
- sending, from a first device to a second device, an initial I/O request comprising confirmation that the second device supports latency simulation, and wherein the first device and the second device are a server, a controller, or a switch, (7,8);
- based on the second device supporting latency simulation, the second device sending to the first device, a latency support confirmation;
- in response to receiving the latency support confirmation, the first device building, an I/O frame, comprising an I/O command comprising a read data or a write data, and a latency period, that is based on a calculated latency duration;
- and
- the first device sending the I/O frame to the second device upon the expiration of the latency duration.
