Determining channel state information in advanced networks

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
• determining, for transmission ranks of a group of transmission ranks, a number of resources and respective link quality metrics;
• and
• choosing, a transmission rank from the group of transmission ranks and a precoding matrix indicator from a group of precoding matrix indicators, wherein the choosing comprises choosing the transmission rank based on capacity information determined for the transmission rank satisfying a defined capacity information threshold, and wherein the capacity information is indicative of a data carrying capacity for the transmission rank.

A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

• determining a number of resources for a group of transmission ranks;
• determining, respective link quality metrics for the transmission ranks of the group of the transmission ranks;
• and
• selecting a transmission rank from the group of the transmission ranks and a precoding matrix indicator, resulting in a selected precoding matrix indicator, wherein the selecting comprises selecting the transmission rank based on capacity information determined for the transmission rank satisfying a defined capacity information threshold, and wherein the capacity information is indicative of a data carrying capacity for the transmission rank.
