Abstract
Provided is a process of using simulated consumer profiles to construction calibration data from a pricing analytics application having a relatively high dimensional input parameter space.
Claims19
A method of obtaining a representative sampling of application output values in an input parameter space of an application, the method comprising:
- obtaining access to an executing instance of the application, the application being operative to provide the application output values, wherein the application is responsive to variations in profiles input to the application, each profile having more than four attributes corresponding to more than four dimensions of a set of input dimensions of the input parameter space of the application upon which the application output values are based, wherein the input parameter space comprises more than four dimensions;
- determining sub-regions of the input parameter space, the sub-regions being defined by specifications of constrained variation in a first subset of the set of input dimensions of the input parameter space of the application, by:
- forming a first plurality of simulated profiles in which a second subset of the set of input dimensions are constrained in variation and the first subset of the set of input dimensions vary both outside and inside of the specifications of constrained variation in the first subset of the set of input dimensions of the input parameter space of the application, wherein the second subset of the set of input dimensions is different from the first subset of the set of input dimensions;
- querying the application with the first plurality of simulated profiles;
- receiving application output values responsive to the querying from the application for each of the first plurality of simulated profiles;
- associating each of the first plurality of simulated profiles with a received application output value responsive to the respective simulated profile in respective first records;
- selecting representative profiles based on a distribution of application output values in the first insurance pricing records;
- and
- defining the specifications of constrained variation based on attributes in the first subset of the set of input dimensions of the representative profiles;
- forming a second plurality of simulated profiles disposed within the sub-regions of the input parameter space;
- querying the application with the second plurality of simulated profiles;
- receiving application output values responsive to the querying from the application for each of the second plurality of simulated profiles;
- associating each of the second plurality of simulated profiles with a received application output value responsive to the respective simulated profile in respective second records;
- and
- storing the second insurance pricing records in memory;
- and
- wherein forming the second plurality of simulated profiles comprises:
- varying attributes in the second subset of the set of input dimensions through respective ranges or populations of the respective attributes in respective dimensions;
- and
- generating a multidimensional response surface based on the first records and the second records, wherein the multidimensional response surface comprises at least one value in each dimension of the input parameter space.

A tangible, non-transitory, machine readable medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors effectuate operations comprising:
- obtaining access to an executing instance of an application, the application being operative to provide application output values responsive to variations in profiles input to the application, each profile having more than four attributes corresponding to more than four dimensions of a set of input dimensions of an input parameter space of the pricing analytics application upon which the application output values prices-are based, wherein the input parameter space comprises more than four dimensions:
- determining sub-regions of the input parameter space, the sub-regions being defined by specifications of constrained variation in a first subset of the set of input dimensions of the input parameter space of the application, by:
- forming a first plurality of simulated profiles in which a second subset of the set of input dimensions are constrained in variation and the first subset of the set of input dimensions vary both outside and inside of the specifications of constrained variation in the first subset of the set of input dimensions of the input parameter space of the application, wherein the second subset of the set of input dimensions is different from the first subset of the set of input dimensions:
- querying the application with the first plurality of simulated profiles;
- receiving application output values responsive to the querying from the application for each of the first plurality of simulated profiles;
- associating each of the first plurality of simulated profiles with a received application output value responsive to the respective simulated profile in respective first records;
- selecting representative profiles based on a distribution of application output values in the first insurance pricing records;
- and
- defining the specifications of constrained variation based on attributes in the first subset of the set of input dimensions of the representative profiles;
- forming a second plurality of simulated profiles disposed within the sub-regions of the input parameter space;
- querying the application with the second plurality of simulated profiles;
- receiving application output values responsive to the querying from the application for each of the second plurality of simulated profiles;
- associating each of the second plurality of simulated profiles with a received application output value responsive to the respective simulated profile in respective second records;
- and
- storing the second records in memory;
- and
- wherein forming the second plurality of simulated profiles comprises:
- varying attributes in the second subset of the set of input dimensions through respective ranges or populations of the respective attributes in respective dimensions;
- and
- generating a multidimensional response surface based on the first records and the second records, wherein the multidimensional response surface comprises at least one value in each dimension of the input parameter space.
