Abstract
Methods for the treatment of metallic particles such as heavy metal particles and objects contaminated with the metallic particles. For the treatment of objects contaminated with the metallic particles, a stabilizing composition may be applied to the object with or without a fixation agent. For the treatment of free-flowing metallic particles, an agglomeration agent may be used with or without a stabilizing agent.
Claims32
A method for the treatment of a filter that is contaminated with metallic lead particles deposited on a surface of the filter, comprising the steps of:
- applying a stabilizing composition to the contaminated filter, where the stabilizing composition comprises a liquid carrier and at least a first heavy metal stabilizing agent that is at least partially solubilized in the liquid carrier, wherein the liquid carrier comprises an acid and wherein the first heavy metal stabilizing agent is selected from the group consisting of dipotassium phosphate, tripotassium phosphate, monosodium phosphate and diammonium phosphate;
- and
- applying a fixation agent to the filter, wherein the fixation agent comprises a gum.
A method for the treatment of a filter that is contaminated with metallic lead particles and a potentially explosive dry powder deposited on a surface of the filter, comprising the steps of:
- applying a stabilizing composition to the contaminated filter, where the stabilizing composition comprises a liquid carrier and at least a first heavy metal stabilizing agent that is at least partially solubilized in the liquid carrier, wherein the first heavy metal stabilizing agent has a solubility in the liquid carrier of at least about 10 g/100 mL;
- applying a fixation agent to the contaminated filter, wherein the fixation agent comprises a gum;
- and
- applying a fire retardant to the filter.
A method for the treatment of a filter that is contaminated with metallic lead particles deposited on a surface of the filter, comprising the step of applying a stabilizing composition to the contaminated filter, where the stabilizing composition comprises a liquid carrier and at least a first heavy metal stabilizing agent that is at least partially solubilized in the liquid carrier, wherein:
- the liquid carrier comprises an acid;
- and
- the first heavy metal stabilizing agent is selected from the group consisting of dipotassium phosphate, tripotassium phosphate, monosodium phosphate and diammonium phosphate.
A method for the treatment of a filter that is contaminated with metallic lead particles deposited on a surface of the filter, comprising the step of applying a stabilizing composition to the contaminated filter, where the stabilizing composition comprises:
- a liquid carrier;
- a first heavy metal stabilizing agent that is at least partially solubilized in the liquid carrier and is selected from the group consisting of dipotassium phosphate, tripotassium phosphate, monosodium phosphate and diammonium phosphate;
- and
- at least a second heavy metal stabilizing agent that is different than the first heavy metal stabilizing agent.
A method for the treatment of a filter that is contaminated with metallic lead particles deposited on a surface of the filter, comprising the steps of:
- applying a stabilizing composition to the contaminated filter, where the stabilizing composition comprises a liquid carrier and at least a first heavy metal stabilizing agent that is at least partially solubilized in the liquid carrier and a second heavy metal stabilizing agent that is different than the first heavy metal stabilizing agent, wherein the first heavy metal stabilizing agent is selected from the group consisting of dipotassium phosphate, tripotassium phosphate, monosodium phosphate and diammonium phosphate;
- and
- applying a fixation agent to the filter, wherein the fixation agent comprises a gum.
