Abstract
A clamshell package includes a base section having a triangular shape and first and second storage sections pivotally attached to the base section by first and second hinges, respectively. The storage sections have storage section flanges extending outward and terminating at storage section flange outer edges defining an outer perimeter of the clamshell package. When the storage sections are closed, the storage section flanges face and engage out to the storage section flange outer edges.
Claims19
A clamshell package comprising:
- a base section having a maximum width at a bottom surface of the base section and a decreasing width as the base section extends upward from the bottom surface, a first base section side and a second base section side that is opposite the first base section side;
- a first storage section having a first storage section base end and a first storage section flange extending outward and terminating at a first storage section flange outer edge;
- a second storage section having a second storage section base end and a second storage section flange extending outward and terminating at a second storage section flange outer edge;
- a first hinge pivotally attaching the first storage section base end to the first base section side to enable the first storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a first storage section open position to a first storage section closed position;
- and
- a second hinge pivotably attaching the second storage section base end to the second base section side to enable the second storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a second storage section open position to a second storage section closed position,
- wherein the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge define an outer perimeter of the clamshell package, and wherein first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge are the outermost perimeter side edges of the clamshell package, and
- wherein, when the first storage section is in the first storage section closed position and the second storage section is in the second storage section closed position, the first storage section flange faces and contacts the second storage section flange out to the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge.

A clamshell package comprising:
- a base section having a maximum width at a bottom surface of the base section and a decreasing width as the base section extends upward from the bottom surface, a first base section side and a second base section side that is opposite the first base section side;
- a first storage section having a first storage section base end and a first storage section flange extending outward and terminating at a first storage section flange outer edge;
- a second storage section having a second storage section base end and a second storage section flange extending outward and terminating at a second storage section flange outer edge;
- a first hinge pivotally attaching the first storage section base end to the first base section side to enable the first storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a first storage section open position to a first storage section closed position;
- and
- a second hinge pivotably attaching the second storage section base end to the second base section side to enable the second storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a second storage section open position to a second storage section closed position, wherein a first vertical distance from the first hinge to the bottom surface of the base section is greater than a second vertical distance from the second hinge to the bottom surface of the base section,
- wherein the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge define an outer perimeter of the clamshell package, and
- wherein, when the first storage section is in the first storage section closed position and the second storage section is in the second storage section closed position, the first storage section flange faces and contacts the second storage section flange out to the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge.

- a base section having a maximum width at a bottom surface of the base section and a decreasing width as the base section extends upward from the bottom surface, a first base section end, a second base section end that is opposite the first base section end, a first base section side and a second base section side that is opposite the first base section side;
- a first storage section having a first storage section base end, a first storage section top end opposite the first storage section base end, oppositely disposed first storage section sides extending from the first storage section base end to the first storage section top end, and a first storage section flange extending outward from the first storage section top end and the first storage section sides of the first storage section and terminating at a first storage section flange outer edge, wherein the first storage section base end is pivotably attached to the first base section side to enable the first storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a first storage section open position to a first storage section closed position;

- a second storage section having a second storage section base end, a second storage section top end opposite the second storage section base end, oppositely disposed second storage section sides extending from the second storage section base end to the second storage section top end, and a second storage section flange extending outward from the second storage section top end and the second storage section sides of the second storage section and terminating at a second storage section flange outer edge, wherein the second storage section base end is pivotably attached to the second base section side to enable the second storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a second storage section open position to a second storage section closed position, wherein the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge define an outer perimeter of the clamshell package, and wherein first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge are the outermost perimeter side edges of the clamshell package,
- wherein, when the first storage section is in the first storage section closed position and the second storage section is in the second storage section closed position, the first storage section flange faces and contacts the second storage section flange from the first storage section top end, the first storage section sides, the second storage section top end and the second storage section sides out to the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge.

- a second hinge pivotally attaching the second storage section base end to the second base section side to enable the second storage section to pivot relative to the base section from a second storage section open position to a second storage section closed position, wherein a first vertical distance from the first hinge to the bottom surface of the base section is greater than a second vertical distance from the second hinge to the bottom surface of the base section, wherein the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge define an outer perimeter of the clamshell package, and
- wherein, when the first storage section is in the first storage section closed position and the second storage section is in the second storage section closed position, the first storage section flange faces and contacts the second storage section flange from the first storage section top end, the first storage section sides, the second storage section top end and the second storage section sides out to the first storage section flange outer edge and the second storage section flange outer edge.
