Abstract
A window covering in accordance with the invention includes a gearbox assembly comprising a controller incorporated into the gearbox, a motor incorporated into the gearbox, and an external sensor is provided to provide external inputs to the controller in the gearbox assembly. The external sensor may include a security sensor, a temperature sensor, a light sensor, an audio sensor, a smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector, or a humidity sensor. The controller is further configured to relay sensor information to a remote HVAC system or security system.
Claims20
A window covering system comprising:
- a motorized gearbox comprising;
- a motor;
- an output shaft with a hole therethrough;
- a plurality of interchangeable adapter inserts, each insert, having an external shape that interlocks with an internal shape of the output shaft, and an internal shape configured for interlocking with a respective tilt rod having a corresponding cross sectional shape;
- a controller disposed in the gearbox, the controller comprising a communication module, the communication module configured as a repeater;
- and
- a mesh network of interconnected sensors external to the window covering that communicate with the controller in the gearbox,
- wherein the motorized gearbox is configured to attach to a tilt rod of a window covering, and the controller controls the motor to open and close the window covering based on a reading of the mesh network of interconnected sensors and the repeater retransmits signals of one or more of the interconnected sensors.
