Time-division multiple access with overlapped preamble

A receiver, comprising:

• a signal processor;
• and
• a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the signal processor such that the signal processor is programmed to:
• using a predetermined schedule, receive a transmission comprising a time-division multiple access (TDMA) frame,
• wherein the predetermined schedule comprises a plurality of TDMA timeslots, wherein the plurality of TDMA timeslots comprise a first TDMA timeslot having a duration defined by a first time interval and a second TDMA timeslot having a duration defined by a second time interval, wherein a portion of the second time interval overlaps in time with the first time interval,
• wherein receiving the TDMA frame comprises receiving a first burst (that comprises a first preamble and a first payload) in the first TDMA timeslot and receiving a second burst (that comprises a second preamble and a second payload) in the second TDMA timeslot, wherein the first burst and at least a portion of the second preamble are received concurrently;
• store the first burst and the second burst in a buffer;
• perform iterative interference cancellation to extract a first message from the first payload, wherein extracting the first message from the first payload comprises demodulating and decoding the first burst;
• perform iterative interference cancellation to extract a second message from the second payload by:
• determining a remodulated and recoded first burst by recoding and remodulating the demodulated and decoded first burst;
• determining a residual by subtracting the remodulated and recoded first burst from the first burst and the second preamble stored in the buffer;
• and
• demodulating and decoding the residual stored in the buffer.
