Abstract
An archival data storage service dispatches a first robotic device of a data storage library to perform a first task that involves moving a first data storage tape from a tape drive to a slot of the data storage library. The service select a second task to be performed by a second robotic device, which can be performed without the first robotic device causing delay of the second task. While the first robotic device is performing the first task, the archival data storage service dispatches the second robotic device to perform the second task.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method, comprising:
- dispatching a first robotic device of an archival data storage library to perform a first task comprising moving a first data storage tape from a first slot of a plurality of slots of the archival data storage library to a first tape drive of the archival data storage library;
- determining, based on the first task, a subset of the plurality of slots to avoid a collision between the first robotic device and a second robotic device of the archival data storage library to be dispatched to perform a second task;
- selecting, from a plurality of tasks to be performed in the archival data storage library, a second task to be performed by the second robotic device, the second task able to be performed by the second robotic device without causing the collision;
- and
- dispatching the second robotic device to perform the second task while the first robotic device is in process of performing the first task.
A system, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- memory that stores computer-executable instructions that, if executed, cause the system to:
- dispatch a first robotic device of a data storage library to perform a first task comprising moving a first data storage medium from a first location of the data storage library to a second location of the data storage library;
- determine a second task to be performed by a second robotic device, the second task determined such that the second task is performable by the second robotic device without the first robotic device causing delay of the second task by the second robotic device;
- and
- while the first robotic device is performing the first task, dispatch the second robotic device to perform the second task.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing thereon executable instructions that, as a result of being executed by one or more processors of a computer system, cause the computer system to at least:
- store a plurality of tasks to perform in a data storage library comprising a first robotic device and a second robotic device;
- determine, from the plurality of tasks, a second task for the second robotic device to perform while the first robotic device is performing a first task, the second task determined based on a set of locations of the first robotic device while performing the first task;
- and
- cause the second robotic device to begin performance of the second task while the first robotic device is in process of performing the first task.
