Abstract
The disclosure provides dyes for marking hydrocarbon compositions. More particularly, the disclosure relates to non-mutagenic dyes for marking hydrocarbon compositions.
Claims8
A compound comprising the formula:
- wherein R is a methyl group, R1 is a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl group containing from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, R2 is a heptyl group, a octyl group, or a nonyl group, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, wherein the compound produces a negative Ames Test result.
A composition for marking a hydrocarbon fluid, the composition comprising:
- between 0.1% and 70% by weight of a compound having the formula:
- wherein R is a methyl group, R1 is a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl group containing from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, R2 is a linear heptyl group, a linear octyl group, or a linear nonyl group, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, wherein the compound produces a negative Ames Test result;
- and between 30% and 99.9% by weight of a solvent.
A marked hydrocarbon composition comprising:
- a hydrocarbon fluid;
- and
- from 0.1 ppm to 500 ppm of a compound having the formula:
- wherein R and R1 is a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl group containing from 7 to 12 carbon atoms, R2 is a heptyl group, an octyl group, or a nonyl group, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, wherein the compound produces a negative Ames Test result.
