## Abstract

A system for detecting electricity theft with an integrity checks analysis includes a graphical user interface (GUI) configured to display information related to a flow of electricity within a power distribution system and a controller in communication with the GUI. The controller is configured to receive electrical readings taken by a plurality of electricity meters and examine the electrical readings of the plurality of electricity meters for electricity theft indicators. The controller is also configured to determine a probability that electricity is being stolen at each of the plurality of electricity meters according to any electricity theft indicators affiliated therewith and output each probability to the GUI for display.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system for detecting electricity theft with an integrity checks analysis, the system comprising:
a graphical user interface (GUI) configured to display information related to a flow of electricity within a power distribution system; and
a controller in communication with the GUI, the controller configured to:
receive electrical data taken by a plurality of electricity meters;
examine the electrical data of the plurality of electricity meters for electricity theft indicators;
determine a probability that electricity is being stolen at each of the plurality of electricity meters according to any electricity theft indicators affiliated therewith; and
output the probability at each electricity meter to the GUI for display.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein the controller is configured to examine electrical readings of the plurality of electricity meters for discrepancies between the electrical readings for primary meters and the electrical readings for sub-meters electrically downstream from the primary meters.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein the GUI displays the probability at each electricity meter as a color selected according to how likely electricity is being stolen at each of the plurality of meters.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3 wherein the GUI displays a first color if there is a first probability of electricity theft, a second color if there is a second probability of electricity theft, a third color if there is a third probability of electricity theft, and a fourth color if there is a fourth probability of electricity theft.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein the controller is further configured to output any electricity theft indicators affiliated with each of the plurality of meters to the GUI for display.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5 wherein the GUI is configured to display a color with the electricity theft indicators affiliated with each of the plurality of meters to indicate a probability of electricity theft associated with each electricity theft indicator.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein the controller is further configured to examine the electrical readings over multiple intervals.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein each electricity theft indicator has a predetermined number of points assigned thereto; and
wherein the controller determines the probability that electricity is being stolen at each of the plurality of electricity meters by adding the number of points from each electricity theft indicator affiliated with each respective meter.

### Claim 9

A method of detecting electricity theft in a power distribution system using an integrity checks analysis, the method comprising:
collecting electrical data from metering devices that measure a flow of electricity therethrough at a controller of the power distribution system;
analyzing the electrical data with the controller to determine a presence of any electricity theft indicators at any metering devices;
based on the analysis of the electrical data, determining a status of each metering device with the controller, the status at each metering device indicating a probability of electricity theft; and
outputting the status at each metering device from the controller to a graphical user interface (GUI) for display.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 further comprising analyzing the electrical data with the controller over multiple intervals.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 further comprising displaying the status of each metering device as a color on the GUI, each color indicating a different probability of electricity theft.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 wherein determining the status of each metering device with the controller comprises:
adding together a number of points assigned to all electricity theft indicators at each respective metering device; and
determining the probability of electricity theft at each metering device based on that number of points.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 wherein the electricity theft indicators comprise one or more of:
worst non-technical losses at feeders of the power distribution system;
an existing outage;
zero consumption over consecutive intervals;
daily spikes in electricity usage;
daily drops in electricity usage;
electrical data of a metering device at a load not being comparable to electrical data of a neighboring metering device with a similar expected load;
multiple outages over multiple days;
an outage followed by a significant change in electricity measured; and
an outage that is not widespread.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 further comprising outputting any electricity theft indicators associated with each metering device from the controller to the GUI for display.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14 further comprising displaying any electricity theft indicators associated with each metering device on the GUI based on selections by a user.

### Claim 16

A power system that detects electricity theft using an integrity checks analysis, the power system comprising:
a plurality of meters measuring a flow of electricity therethrough;

receive the electricity flow measurements of the plurality of meters:
assess the electricity flow measurements against a plurality of electricity theft indicators;
determine a probability of electricity theft at each of the plurality of meters based on any electricity theft indicators associated therewith;
assign a color-coded status to each of the plurality of meters based on the probability of electricity theft associated therewith; and
output the color-coded status at each meter to the GUI for display.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)
