## Abstract

The invention includes, in part, methods and compounds for treating cancer including, but not limited to gliomas, melanomas, and neuroblastomas. In some embodiments of the invention, a glyceryltriacetate compound is administered to a subject in an amount effective to treat or prevent a cancer in the subject.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for treating a cancer, the method comprising administering to a subject in need of treatment of a cancer, a glyceryltriacetate (GTA) compound in a therapeutically effective amount to treat the cancer, wherein the cancer is a glioma or a neuroblastoma.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein treating the cancer comprises decreasing cancer stem cell proliferation in the subject.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein treating the cancer comprises enhancing the cytosolic-nuclear shuttling of aspartoacylase (ASPA) and/or acetyl-CoA synthetase 1 (AceCS1).

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the GTA compound is administered to the subject orally, intragastrically, or is administered into a surgical incision, opening, or cavity in the subject.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising administering one or more additional cancer-therapeutic agents to the subject.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the one or more additional cancer-therapeutic agents is temozolomide, bevacizumab, bis-chloroethylnitrosourea (BCNU), Lomustine, procarbazine, or vincristine.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the GTA compound and the one or more additional cancer chemotherapeutic agent are administered as a combination drug therapy.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising administering to the subject a surgical treatment to remove or reduce the cancer in the subject.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the GTA compound is administered to the subject in a pharmaceutical composition.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the subject does not have Canavan disease.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the subject is a human.
