## Abstract

A soft breast prosthesis is provided, the prosthesis having a surface configuration advantageous for dual plane placement of the prosthesis in a breast.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A breast implant prosthesis comprising an exterior having a posterior surface, an anterior surface, an upper portion, and a lower portion, the prosthesis having (i) a lower pole region with a textured outer surface that forms a fixation region configured for subglandular placement and (ii) an upper pole region with a smooth outer surface configured for submuscular placement, a boundary between the fixation region and the upper pole region extending transverse relative to a vertical axis of the implant prosthesis when seen in side view, the textured outer surface of the lower pole region extending along only the lower portion of the exterior, the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region extending along the upper portion of the exterior along at least one of the posterior surface or the anterior surface of the exterior, the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region having a texture different from the textured outer surface of the lower pole region.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 20% and about 80% of the exterior.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 30% and about 70% of the exterior.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 40% and about 60% of the exterior.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses about 50% of the exterior.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region extends along the posterior surface.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The prosthesis of claim 6, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region further extends along the anterior surface.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region extends along the anterior surface.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region extends along the posterior surface.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The prosthesis of claim 9, wherein the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region extends along the anterior surface.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region outer surface comprises a plurality of textured bands.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The prosthesis of claim 1, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region outer surface comprises a plurality of textured bands extending along an anterior.

### Claim 13

A method of augmenting or reconstructing a human breast comprising: implanting in a breast a breast implant including an exterior having a posterior surface, an anterior surface, an upper portion, and a lower portion, the breast implant having (i) lower pole region with a textured outer surface that forms a fixation region and (i) upper pole region with a smooth outer surface, the fixation region having an upper edge extending at an angle relative to a vertical axis of the implant, the textured outer surface of the lower pole region extending along only the lower portion of the exterior, the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region extending along the upper portion of the exterior along at least one of the posterior surface or the anterior surface of the exterior, the breast implant being positioned such that the textured outer surface of the lower pole region is placed subglandularly and the smooth outer surface of the upper pole region is placed submuscularly.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 20% and about 80% of the exterior.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 30% and about 70% of the exterior.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region encompasses between about 40% and about 60% of the exterior.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region comprises a plurality of textured bands.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region comprises a plurality of textured bands encompassing between about 20% and about 80% of the exterior.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region comprises a plurality of textured bands encompassing between about 30% and about 70% of the exterior.

### Claim 20 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the textured outer surface of the lower pole region comprises a plurality of textured bands encompassing between about 40% and about 60% of the exterior.
