Abstract
A monitor includes a display device to display images; an integrated circuit to control the display device; and a video port to connect the monitor to a host device. The integrated circuit is programmed to collect usage information and output the usage information through the video port to the host device.

A monitor comprising:
- a display device to display images;
- an integrated circuit to control the display device;
- and
- a video port to connect the monitor to a host device;
- wherein the integrated circuit is programmed to collect usage information and output the usage information through the video port to the host device.

- a processor;
- a memory to provide programming for the processor;
- a video port to connect the host device to an external monitor;

- a driver to be operated by the processor to control the external monitor through the video port;
- the driver to receive usage information from the external monitor through the video port, the usage information characterizing operation of the external monitor, and transmit the usage information to another device.
