Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for supporting redundancy and outage resolution in coaxial networks with ideal taps.
Claims20
A system for handling tap-related failures in a cable network, the system comprising:
- one or more circuits for use in a network element of the cable network, the one or more circuits being configured to support handling tap-related failures in at least one chain of the cable network;
- wherein:
- the chain comprises at least one network node and a plurality of taps;
- the at least one network node is configured for transmitting downstream (DS) signals and receiving upstream (US) signals communicated within the cable network;
- and
- wherein when a tap-related failure occurs at a tap from the plurality of taps:
- the one or more circuits are configured to enable bypassing the tap during communication of signals to and/or from a section of the chain that is affected by the tap-related failure;
- and
- at least one other tap of the plurality of taps of the chain is re-configured to handle signals based on the bypassing of the tap.

A system for handling tap-related failures in a cable network, the system comprising:
- a plurality of taps;
- a first network node;
- and
- a second network node;
- wherein:
- each of the first network node and the second network node is configured for transmitting downstream (DS) signals and receiving upstream (US) signals communicated;
- one or more taps of the plurality of taps are configured to communicate signals via one of the first network node and the second network node;
- one or more remaining taps of the plurality of taps are configured to communicate signals via other one of the first network node and the second network node;
- and
- one or more of the first network node, the second network node, and the plurality of taps is configured to adjust assignment of the plurality of taps to the first network node and the second network node based on network related conditions.
