Image processing apparatus and control method therefor

A control method for an image processing apparatus, the method comprising:

• inputting a first captured video and a second captured video;
• extracting attribute values of image regions of background objects commonly included in the first captured video and the second captured video respectively from the first captured video and the second captured video;
• extracting attribute values of image regions of objects respectively included in the first captured video and the second captured video;
• deriving a relative index of an attribute value of the image region of the object with reference to the attribute value of the image region of the background object, for the object included in each of the first captured video and the second captured video;
• calculating a distance between the relative index for the object included in the first captured video and the relative index for the object included in the second captured video;
• and
• detecting the same object included in the first captured video and the second captured video based on the distance calculated by the distance calculating step.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium storing a program that causes a computer to function as an image processing apparatus comprising:

• an input unit configured to input a first captured video and a second captured video;
• a first extraction unit configured to extract attribute values of image regions of background objects commonly included in the first captured video and the second captured video respectively from the first captured video and the second captured video;
• a second extraction unit configured to extract attribute values of image regions of objects respectively included in the first captured video and the second captured video;
• a deriving unit configured to derive a relative index of an attribute value of the image region of the object with reference to the attribute value of the image region of the background object, for the object included in each of the first captured video and the second captured video;
• a distance calculation unit configured to calculate a distance between the relative index for the object included in the first captured video and the relative index for the object included in the second captured video;
• and
• a detection unit configured to detect the same object included in the first captured video and the second captured video based on the distance calculated by the distance calculation unit.
