Conversational understanding

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that are configured to cause one or more processors to:

• receive a conversational understanding document at a task completion handler from a dialog manager separate from the task completion handler, the conversational understanding document comprising an intent of a query and target information to fulfill the intent;
• select, at the task completion handler, missing information from among the target information;
• and
• guide, at the task completion handler, a conversation to request at least some of the selected information, the guiding comprising generating a response to the query that is configured to solicit the selected missing information and causing the response to be provided to an originator of the query.

An apparatus comprising:

• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a conversational understanding document comprising an intent of a query and target information to fulfill the intent;
• a hardware processor circuit;
• a computer-implemented input interface configured to receive the conversational understanding document from a dialog manager;
• a task completion handler operable on the hardware processor circuit;
• and
• a computer-implemented output interface configured to forward the conversational understanding document to a task completion handler separate from the dialog manager, wherein:
• the task completion handler is configured to select missing information from among the target information, and to guide a conversation to request at least some of the selected information, the guiding comprising generating a response to the query that is configured to solicit the selected missing information and causing the response to be provided to an originator of the query.
