Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for establishing a search radius based on token frequency. A search query having a geographic indication is received and it is determined whether or not the received query contains one or more non-frequent tokens. Non-frequent tokens have a respective frequency that occurs in the entities included in a data store of entities below a threshold number of times. If it is determined that the received query does not contain one or more non-frequent tokens, the search radius established for the search query, and thus applied to the search, is restricted to a radius established based upon the geographic indication of the query. If it is determined that the received query does contain one or more non-frequent tokens, the search radius is established such that it is larger than if it was established based upon the geographic indication of the query.

Dependent claims

A system for establishing a search radius based on token frequency, the system comprising:

a search radius establishing engine having one or more processors and one or more computer-readable storage media;
and
at least one data store coupled with the search radius establishing engine, wherein the search radius establishing engine:
receives a query;
determines that the received query contains one or more non-frequent tokens based on breaking the query into tokens, and determining from each token a number of entities associated with an entity index, wherein the one or more non-frequent tokens are determined based on the number of the entities associated with the entity index being less than or equal to a threshold number of the entities in the entity index;
and
establishes the search radius based on the determination that the received query contains one or more non-frequent tokens, the search radius being a distance from a particular geographic location that defines a search area of the query, the search radius and the search area being larger than if it was determined that the received query failed to contain one or more non-frequent tokens, wherein the particular geographic location is based on sensed data from one or more location sensors associated with a computing device.

A method being performed by one or more computing devices including at least one processor, the method for establishing a search radius, the method comprising:

receiving a query, wherein the query comprises at least one token;
determining that the at least one token of the received query contains one or more non-frequent unigrams tokens based on the at least one token of the received query occurring less than an entity threshold defined by an entity index;
and
establishing the search radius based on the determination that the least one token of the received query contains one or more non-frequent unigrams, the search radius and a search area being larger than if it was determined that the least one token of the received query failed to contain one or more non-frequent unigrams, wherein the search radius refers to a distance from a particular geographic location that forms a radius of a circular area having the particular geographic location at its center, the circular area defining the search area, wherein the particular geographic location is determined using the one or more sensors that provide the location indicator associated with the computing device.

A computerized system for establishing a search radius, the system comprising:

one or more sensors that provide a location indicator associated with a computing device;
a search engine that receives a query from the computing device and provides one more search results in response to the received query by searching for the one or more search results within a search area;
one or more processors;
and
one or more computer storage media storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
determining that the received query fails to contain one or more non-frequent unigrams;
determining that the received query contains one or more non-frequent bigrams;
establishing the search radius based on the location indicator and the determination that the received query contains one or more non-frequent bigrams, the search radius and the search area being larger than if it was determined that the received query failed to contain one or more non-frequent bigrams the search radius being a distance from a particular geographic location that defines the search area of the query, wherein the particular geographic location is determined using the one or more sensors that provide the location indicator associated with the computing device;
and
providing the search engine with the search area to use in the searching.
