Abstract
One or more configuration state registers are provided in-memory rather than in-processor. A request to access a configuration state register is obtained. A determination is made that the configuration state register is in-memory rather than in-processor. Based on determining that the configuration state register is in-memory, the access is converted from an in-processor access operation to an in-memory access operation.
Claims20
A computer program product for facilitating processing within a computing environment, the computer program product comprising:
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for performing a method comprising:
- obtaining, by a processor, a request to access a configuration state register of the processor, the configuration state register used in controlling, at least in part, operations of the processor, and the processor comprising a plurality of configuration state registers, wherein one part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-processor configuration state registers of the processor, and another part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-memory configuration state registers for the processor, the one part and the other part of the plurality of configuration state registers each comprising multiple different types of configuration state registers, and the in-memory configuration state registers for the processor being stored in an in-memory configuration state register area of the memory;
- determining, by the processor, based on obtaining the request to access the configuration state register, that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register of the in-memory configuration state registers rather than one of the in-processor configuration state registers;
- and
- converting by the processor, based on determining that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register, the access from an in-processor access operation to an in-memory access operation.
A computer system for facilitating processing within a computing environment, the computer system comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor in communication with the memory, wherein the computer system is configured to perform a method, said method comprising:
- obtaining, by a processor, a request to access a configuration state register of the processor, the configuration state register used in controlling, at least in part, operations of the processor, and the processor comprising a plurality of configuration state registers, wherein one part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-processor configuration state registers of the processor, and another part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-memory configuration state registers for the processor, the one part and the other part of the plurality of configuration state registers each comprising multiple different types of configuration state registers, and the in-memory configuration state registers for the processor being stored in an in-memory configuration state register area of the memory;
- determining, by the processor, based on obtaining the request to access the configuration state register, that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register of the in-memory configuration state registers rather than one of the in-processor configuration state registers;
- and
- converting by the processor, based on determining that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register, the access from an in-processor access operation to an in-memory access operation.
A computer-implemented method of facilitating processing within a computing environment, the computer-implemented method comprising:
- obtaining, by a processor, a request to access a configuration state register of the processor, the configuration state register used in controlling, at least in part, operations of the processor, and the processor comprising a plurality of configuration state registers, wherein one part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-processor configuration state registers of the processor, and another part of the plurality of configuration state registers are in-memory configuration state registers for the processor, the one part and the other part of the plurality of configuration state registers each comprising multiple different types of configuration state registers, and the in-memory configuration state registers for the processor being stored in an in-memory configuration state register area of the memory;
- determining, by the processor, based on obtaining the request to access the configuration state register, that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register of the in-memory configuration state registers rather than one of the in-processor configuration state registers;
- and
- converting by the processor, based on determining that the configuration state register is an in-memory configuration state register, the access from an in-processor access operation to an in-memory access operation.
