Abstract
Provided is a method for directed fouling of a substance onto a selected surface. Also provided is an apparatus suitable for directed fouling of a substance onto a selected surface.
Claims19
A method comprising:
- providing a vessel having an inner surface;
- processing a substance in the vessel in the presence of a first object having a first surface;
- depositing a foulant on at least a portion of the first surface during the processing, wherein the foulant comprises lignin or a polyfuran, thereby producing a fouled first object;
- and
- cleaning at least a portion of the foulant from the fouled first object;
- wherein:
- at least a portion of the inner surface has a first propensity to foul;
- at least a portion of the first surface has a second propensity to foul;
- and
- the first propensity is lower than the second propensity.
