Electronic devices for receiving pushed data

An apparatus configurable for operation in a wireless device, the apparatus comprising:

• a first processor configured for communicating with a cellular network;
• and
• a second processor configured for implementing applications,
• wherein the first processor is configured to perform actions that include:
• establishing a data connection to receive data from a remote service;
• causing the second processor to enter a power-reduced mode to conserve power in the wireless device, after data reception completes;
• and
• while the second processor is in the power-reduced mode, sending a keep-alive packet over the data connection to a server using the first processor,
• wherein the keep-alive packet is provided to the first processor by the second processor before entering the power-reduced mode.

A wireless device comprising:

• radio frequency circuitry for transmission and reception of wireless signals;
• a memory storing executable instructions;
• a first processor configured for communicating with a cellular network;
• and
• a second processor configured for implementing applications,
• wherein execution of the executable instructions by the first processor causes the first processor to perform actions including:
• establishing a data connection to receive data from a remote service;
• causing the second processor to enter a power-reduced mode to conserve power in the wireless device, after data reception completes;
• and
• while the second processor is in the power-reduced mode, sending a keep-alive packet over the data connection to a server using the first processor,
• wherein the keep-alive packet is provided to the first processor by the second processor before entering the power-reduced mode.
