Increased interoperability between web-based applications and hardware functions

A system comprising:

• a memory medium comprising instructions;
• a bus coupled to the memory medium;
• and
• a processor coupled to the bus that when executing the instructions causes the system to:
• monitor, by a hardware compatibility wrapper (HCW) of the mobile device, communications for a command request between a hardware component local to the mobile device and the web-based application, the monitoring comprising:
• receive the command request from a webpage;
• parse a uniform resource locator (URL) of the webpage within a browser control of the web-based application by breaking the URL down into component parts;
• separate the component parts by hashtags;
• and
• identify a set of command indicators based on the parsing and separating;
• and
• calling, by the HCW via a native call, an execution request to the web-based application for a hardware component based on the command request and the identified set of command indicators, wherein the hardware component is a magnetic stripe reader.

A computer-readable storage device storing computer instructions, which when executed, enables a computer system to perform the steps of:

• monitoring, by a hardware compatibility wrapper (HCW) of the mobile device, communications for a command request between a hardware component local to the mobile device and the web-based application, the monitoring comprising:
• receiving the command request from a webpage;
• parsing a uniform resource locator (URL) of the webpage within a browser control of the web-based application by breaking the URL down into component parts;
• separating the component parts by hashtags;
• and
• identifying a set of command indicators based on the parsing and separating;
• and
• calling, by the HCW via a native call, an execution request to the web-based application for a hardware component based on the command request and the identified set of command indicators, wherein the hardware component is a magnetic stripe reader.
