Methods and apparatus to configure switches of a virtual rack

A method, comprising:

• analyzing a packet captured at a hardware switch to determine whether the packet is indicative of a packet flow issue affecting transfer of one or more packet flows on a virtual communication network;
• in response to the determining of whether the packet is indicative of a packet flow issue:
• determining a source internet protocol address and a destination internet protocol address of the packet;
• retrieving, from the virtual switch software, at least one virtual local area network (VLAN) associated with at least one of the source internet protocol address and the destination internet protocol address;
• retrieving a setting from the virtual switch software of a hypervisor managing a software-defined network;
• determining a modification to the setting;
• and
• modifying a configuration of at least one hardware switch associated with the at least one VLAN including the hardware switch based on the determined modification.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to perform at least the operations of:

• analyzing packet captured at a hardware switch to determine whether the packet is indicative of a packet flow issue affecting transfer of one or more packet flows on a virtual communication network;
• in response to the determining of whether the packet is indicative of a packet flow issue:
• determining a source internet protocol address and a destination internet protocol address of the packet;
• retrieving, from the virtual switch software, at least one virtual local area network (VLAN) associated with at least one of the source internet protocol address and the destination internet protocol address;
• retrieving a setting from the virtual switch software of a hypervisor managing a software-defined network;
• determining a modification to a configuration of the hardware switch based on the setting;
• and
• modifying a configuration of at least one hardware switch associated with the at least one VLAN including the hardware switch based on the determined modification.
