Abstract
A gas burner assembly for a cooktop appliance includes a normally aspirated primary burner and a concentrically-positioned forced air boost burner. A dual-outlet solenoid valve receives fuel from a fuel source and selectively directs the fuel to a first solenoid outlet in fluid communication with the primary burner and a second solenoid outlet in fluid communication with the boost burner. The solenoid valve is positionable in a first position where the first solenoid outlet is substantially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially closed and a second position where the first solenoid outlet is partially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially open.
Claims19
A cooktop appliance, comprising:
- a top panel;
- a gas burner assembly positioned at the top panel, the gas burner assembly comprising one or more burner bodies defining a first plurality of flame ports, a first fuel chamber, a second plurality of flame ports positioned above the first plurality of flame ports, and a second fuel chamber, the first fuel chamber being in fluid communication with the first plurality of flame ports such that gaseous fuel within the first fuel chamber is flowable through the first plurality of flame ports, the second fuel chamber being in fluid communication with the second plurality of flame ports such that gaseous fuel within the second fuel chamber is flowable through the second plurality of flame ports, the first fuel chamber being separate from the second fuel chamber within the one or more burner bodies;
- a solenoid valve comprising an inlet in fluid communication with a gaseous fuel source, a first solenoid outlet in fluid communication with the first fuel chamber, and a second solenoid outlet in fluid communication with the second fuel chamber, the solenoid valve being positionable in a first position where the first solenoid outlet is substantially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially closed and a second position where the first solenoid outlet is partially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially open;
- a bleed bypass line that bypasses the solenoid valve to provide a small flow of fuel to the first fuel chamber to ensure the first plurality of flame ports remain lit during operation of the solenoid valve in the second position;
- and
- a forced air supply source fluidly coupled to the second fuel chamber such that the forced air supply source is operable to urge a flow of air into only the second fuel chamber.
A gas burner assembly for a cooktop appliance, the gas burner assembly comprising:
- a solenoid valve comprising an inlet in fluid communication with a gaseous fuel source, a first solenoid outlet, and a second solenoid outlet, the solenoid valve being positionable in a first position where the first solenoid outlet is substantially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially closed and a second position where the first solenoid outlet is partially open and the second solenoid outlet is substantially open;
- a first burner stage that is normally aspirated and in fluid communication with the first solenoid outlet;
- a second burner stage that is concentrically positioned adjacent to and above the first burner stage and in fluid communication with the second solenoid outlet;
- a bleed bypass line that bypasses the solenoid valve to provide a small flow of fuel to the first burner stage to ensure the first burner stage remains lit during operation of the solenoid valve in the second position;
- and
- a forced air supply source fluidly coupled to the second fuel chamber such that the forced air supply source is operable to urge a flow of air into only the second fuel chamber.
