Abstract
Surface treatment compositions and their methods of preparation. Such surface treatment compositions can comprise a solid cross-linking agent and a water-soluble polymer. Such solid cross-linking agent can include a plurality of dialdehyde residues, and the water-soluble polymer can include a plurality of pendant groups capable of covalently bonding with the solid cross-linking agent. The surface treatment compositions can further comprise a fibrous material. Applications for such surface treatment compositions include soil erosion prevention, dust control, and landfill cover.
Claims16
A surface treatment method comprising:
- (a) combining water and a surface treatment composition to thereby form an aqueous surface treatment mixture, wherein said surface treatment composition comprises a dried mixture containing:
- (i) a cross-linking agent in solid form comprising a plurality of residues of a dialdehyde,
- (ii) a water-soluble polymer comprising guar gum that is capable of covalently bonding with said solid cross-linking agent, and
- (iii) a fibrous material;
- and
- (b) applying at least a portion of said aqueous surface treatment mixture to a target area,
- wherein said applying of step (b) comprises spraying at least a portion of said surface treatment mixture onto said target area.
A surface treatment method comprising:
- (a) combining water and a surface treatment composition to thereby form an aqueous surface treatment mixture, wherein said surface treatment composition comprises a dried mixture containing:
- (i) a cross-linking agent in solid form comprising a plurality of residues of a dialdehyde,
- (ii) a water-soluble polymer comprising guar gum that is capable of covalently bonding with said solid cross-linking agent, and
- (iii) a fibrous material;
- and
- (b) applying at least a portion of said aqueous surface treatment mixture to a target area,
- wherein said target area is selected from the group consisting of soil surfaces, mined ore piles, mining overburden piles, dry tailings impoundments, and landfill waste.
A surface treatment method comprising:
- (a) combining water and a surface treatment composition to thereby form an aqueous surface treatment mixture, wherein said surface treatment composition comprises a dried mixture containing:
- (i) a cross-linking agent in solid form comprising a plurality of residues of a dialdehyde, wherein said cross-linking agent comprises a solids content of greater than 50 weight percent,
- (ii) a water-soluble polymer comprising guar gum that is capable of covalently bonding with said solid cross-linking agent, and
- (iii) a fibrous material;
- and
- (b) applying at least a portion of said aqueous surface treatment mixture to a target area,
- wherein said target area is an exterior surface.
