Abstract
An apparatus according to one embodiment includes a beam and a module coupled to the beam. The module has an array of transducers. A displacement device is positioned between the beam and the module for bending the module, thereby altering a pitch of the transducers. A method according to one embodiment includes applying a control signal to a displacement device positioned between a module having an array of transducers and a beam for bending the module, thereby altering a pitch of the transducers.
Claims17
An apparatus, comprising:
- a beam;
- a module coupled to the beam, the module having an array of transducers;
- and
- a displacement device positioned between the beam and the module for bending the module, thereby altering a pitch of the transducers,
- wherein a tape bearing surface of the module has an arcuate shape, created by the displacement device, along a longitudinal axis of the tape bearing surface, the module being fixed in place on the beam to maintain the arcuate shape.

A method, comprising:
- causing a control signal to be applied to a displacement device positioned between a module having an array of transducers and a beam for bending the module, thereby causing a tape bearing surface of the module to have an arcuate shape along a longitudinal axis thereof and altering a pitch of the transducers;
- and
- fixing the module, while being bent by the displacement device, in place on the beam to maintain the arcuate shape of the tape bearing surface of the module along the longitudinal axis thereof created by the bending.
