Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for determining an extent of clogging of a canister filter included in a fuel vapor storage canister of a vehicle. In one example, a method comprises determining an extent to which the canister filter is clogged based on an output of an exhaust gas sensor, and adjusting one or more parameters related to purging of the fuel vapor storage canister as a function of the extent to which the canister filter is clogged. In this way, canister lifetime may be improved, and release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere may be reduced or avoided.
Claims20
A system for a vehicle comprising:
- a fuel vapor storage canister that includes a load port, a vent port, and a purge port, the fuel vapor storage canister further including a canister filter that filters a fluid flow through the purge port;
- an exhaust gas sensor positioned in an exhaust passage of an engine;
- and
- a controller with computer readable instructions stored on non-transitory memory that when executed cause the controller to:
- in response to a loading state of the fuel vapor storage canister greater than a threshold loading state and further in response to one or more other preconditions being met, conduct a canister filter diagnostic that is based on an output of the exhaust gas sensor while fuel vapors from the fuel vapor storage canister are being purged to the engine.
A method comprising:
- diagnosing an extent to which a canister filter coupled to a fuel vapor storage canister positioned in an evaporative emissions system of a vehicle is clogged based on an output of an exhaust gas sensor positioned in an exhaust passage of an engine;
- and
- adjusting one or more parameters related to purging of the fuel vapor storage canister as a function of the extent to which the canister filter is clogged.
A method comprising:
- in response to a refueling event that adds fuel to a fuel tank of a vehicle being indicated to have proceeded without an indication of one or more premature shutoffs of a refueling dispenser and further in response to one or more other conditions being met:
- conducting a canister filter diagnostic to infer an extent to which a canister filter positioned in a fuel vapor storage canister is clogged, the canister filter diagnostic based on an output of an exhaust gas oxygen sensor positioned in an exhaust passage of an engine;
- and
- adjusting one or more vehicle operating parameters based on the extent to which the canister filter is clogged.
