Abstract
Disclosed is a method for preparing a solid-state helical photonic crystal structure. The method includes: mixing a nonreactive chiral dopant with a reactive nematic mesogen, followed by curing to form a helical cholesteric liquid crystal; and removing the chiral dopant from the cholesteric liquid crystal while maintaining the helical structure of the cholesteric liquid crystal, to form a solid-state helical liquid crystal.
Claims8
A method for preparing a solid-state helical photonic crystal structure, comprising:
- mixing a nonreactive chiral dopant with a reactive nematic mesogen;
- curing a mixture resulting from the mixing to form a helical cholesteric liquid crystal;
- and
- removing the nonreactive chiral dopant from the helical cholesteric liquid crystal while maintaining the helical structure of the helical cholesteric liquid crystal, to form a solid-state helical liquid crystal free from the chiral dopant,
- wherein the reactive nematic mesogen is a mixture of a material comprising an acryloyloxy group, 1,6-hexamethylenediol diacrylate, and 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropan-1-one.
