Abstract
Disorders of the eye can be treated by photobiomodulation therapy according to a device designed to direct light into a patient's eye, no matter the configuration of the eye. The device, including a printed circuit board that includes an array of light delivery devices and a heat sink lens, can be placed proximal to the patient's eye. The light delivery devices can be powered to generate light. The light can be directed into the patient's eye regardless of a position of the patient's eye.
Claims16
A system comprising:
- a device configured for placement over at least a portion of a patient's eye socket to deliver light into the patient's eye, wherein the device comprises an eyepatch device configured to attach to the patient's head to cover at least a portion of the patient's eye, the device comprising:
- a printed circuit board comprising an array of light delivery devices to provide the light;
- a lens comprising a plurality of ridges that provide a heat sink for the light delivery devices;
- a flexible metallic ring to conform the printed circuit board and the lens to the patient's eye and to direct the light through the patient's eye and into the patient's pupil;
- and
- at least one MYLAR sheet to facilitate a homogeneous uniform density of light from the printed circuit board;
- and
- a controller to power the printed circuit board.
A method comprising:
- placing a device proximal to at least a portion of a patient's eye, wherein the device comprises:
- a printed circuit board comprising an array of light delivery devices;
- a lens comprising a plurality of ridges that provide a heat sink for the light delivery devices;
- a flexible metallic ring to conform the printed circuit board and the lens to direct the light through the patient's eye and into the patient's pupil;
- and
- at least one MYLAR sheet to facilitate a homogeneous uniform density of light;
- powering the light delivery devices to generate the light;
- and
- directing the light into the patient's eye regardless of a position of the patient's eye.
