Fenestrated bone graft

A method of creating a fenestrated cortical bone graft comprises the steps of:

• acquiring cortical bone from a rib or a tibia bone segment and cleaning the cortical bone exposing an exterior surface removing cancellous bone and exposing an interior surface;
• demineralizing the bone;
• removing the cancellous center;
• treating the cortical bone in 1N HCL using 20 to 50 parts of 1N HCL per gram of bone for a predetermined time of 1 to 3 hours for a rib bone and 4 to 6 hours for a tibia bone to achieve flexibility;
• washing in washing solution;
• passing or otherwise cutting fenestrations forming the fenestrations in the exterior surface extending through to the interior surface of the cortical bone, the fenestrations being uniformly spaced longitudinally along the cortical bone in an oblong shape configured to entrap bone particles;
• freeze drying;
• packing sterilely.
